CREATE YOUR HAPPINESS

CREATE YOUR HAPPINESS

"There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so."

-William Shakespeare

Overthinking can screw us up. We can overthink naturally. We can generate the worst-case scenario without even blinking or lifting a finger. When life happens, it just happens. We are the ones who give meaning to those things that happened. We choose which emotions to assign to whatever happened. Being mindful of the emotions we assign to thoughts is a way to intentionally create happiness. This is how to radiate positive energy about everything. No situation is good or bad unless you make it that way. It is about the way you interpret and respond.

For example, A student fails his first test of the semester.

Choice: A) The Student feels bad about himself, dwells on it, overthinks it, and wastes valuable energy on negative thoughts.

Choice: B) The Student uses the failed test as a study guide to passing the next test. The student finds a tutor and takes more time to study.

Some people are not good at taking tests. It does not mean that they are not smart. Sometimes people need to see the first test of the class in order to know how to prepare for the next one. Feeling bad, dwelling, and overthinking the failed test will only cause more stress, and make the student less focused. However, if the student responds with positive thoughts it will manifest a better score on the next test. TRUST ME, I do understand that way worst things happen in life, then failing a test!

"Life is 10% what happens to you & 90% how you respond."

-Charles R. Swindoll

For every situation that takes place in life, we have a choice in the way we respond to it. Our response will determine the outcome. In life, there are things that we cannot control, but there are many things we CAN control. We can control the way we interpret situations in life. We can also control the way we respond to situations. Life brings many challenges that we cannot avoid. Things that we don't even deserve. Life brings us many unfortunate situations that we do not ask for. The moment you think life is going great here comes another challenge. While we cannot actually ever prepare for challenges because they are unexpected; we can prepare our minds for the way we handle them. Pressure and heat create diamonds. You can really create something powerful & beautiful from pain. Keep these things in mind as a tool to radiate positivity.

1. Expect that many unexpected things will happen in life.

2. Intentionally interpret challenges in a positive light. Yes, look on the bright side. If it is not a blessing it must be a lesson.

3. Be mindful of the way you respond to the challenges of life.

When good things happen we are naturally happy. When life is challenging it is easy to let it get the best of us. It is natural to let challenges make us feel down. It is in our control to change the way we view the challenges. Challenges cause growth because they are unexpected. You have the power to channel any challenge into growth. When life brings you challenges that seem scary because they are new, it is a good sign that growth is about to happen. When things are unexpected they are uncomfortable. Have no fear when a challenge is near, it will cause you to grow in ways like never before.

If you ever find yourself feeling down about life, and you cannot stop yourself from overthinking, talk to someone. Talk to someone who will get you off of the train of overthinking. Trains go so fast. Overthinking can spiral out of control quickly. It is easy to become an emotional wreck. It happens to the best of us.

If you do not have anyone to talk to, READ! Read something positive. Listen to motivational speakers. Tune in to a good podcast. Listen to your favorite comedian on pandora. Journal. Write down those negative thoughts and come up with solutions to turn them into positivity. Find inspirations to follow on social media. UNFOLLOW negativity on social media. Cut out and cut off negative things. Limit your social media intake. Take a break and unplug from all technology. Whatever you do DON'T ride that train of negative thoughts.

As soon as you see this ugly train, STOP it! They say when life brings you lemons you make lemonade. I say when life brings you tomatoes, you make a smoothie. Tomatoes are good for you too. Those negative thoughts take time to reverse because we have been living this way for so long. It can be done though. The more you work to generate positivity, the easier it will become. Constantly remove anything negative from your space. Consume yourself with positive things to read, listen to a good podcast, talk to positive people, find good music, be your own good vibes and find your happy place, etc. Do yourself this favor. This is self-care that will take you far in life. Seek therapy if you need to. It is not a bad idea. Therapy can be better than venting to a friend about the same things over and over.

"Watch your thoughts, they become words. Watch your words, they become actions. Watch your actions, they become habits. Watch your habits, they become character. Watch your character, for it becomes your destiny."

-Lao Tzu
